Ceremony to Award the Best Czech Aviation Athletes for 2004

On Friday, 21 January 2005, an award ceremony took place in the hall of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, celebrating the best Czech Aviation Athletes for 2004.

Aside from parachutists, gliders, acrobats, and navigators, the athletes of the Czech Aeroclub, and the Czech Amateur Aviation Association, also receiving awards were the members of the paragliding team, which won bronze at the European Championship.  Ing. Petr Bezděk, the pilot of the winning crew, Bezděk-Toman, at the 2004 European Championship in the category of ultra-light two-seaters, accepted the trophy-cup from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Ing. Milan Šimonovský.  His team mate on one-seaters, Ing. Jan Lukeš, won in a one-seat plane and contributed to the overall victory of the fourteen-member Czech team.  Their victory is the more precious, because most of the athletes compete in Czech machines.  In the last decade, these ultra-light planes have seen considerable business success abroad, having picked up on the long-lived tradition of Czech airplane constructors and manufacturers.
