After 150 days since signing the contract with the Ministry of Transport, CzechToll closed the first round of tests of its key technology for the new digital toll collection system. According to the current time schedule of ŘSD, the road and motorways maintenance organisation, the system shall be launched on 1 December 2019. The success rate of detection of the new on-board unit in designated toll sections reached 99.75% already during the first round of tests. CzechToll also introduced a prototype of the technical solution of the mobile control vehicle for the Czech customs administration today at the control meeting at the Ministry of Transport.

Tests of the digital geomodel stored in new on-board units were under way from mid January until 17 February 2019. The prototype vehicle for mobile control rode 5750 km on Czech roads during this period. A total of 2153 toll sections were used for verifying the correctness of the geomodel and functionality of the new on-board unit, representing 99.26% of all toll sections where toll will be be collected from 1 December 2019. The remaining toll sections are situated on roads that are under construction and were not accessible during the testing.

Production of new on-board units started as well. The units were developed and are made in the Czech Republic. Production of all the 450 000 on-board units will be finished until mid September 2019.

"Should I draw a parallel between the construction of the new toll system and a house, we have now completed the shell and core. Besides finishing all the different components of the whole project, we are facing a major task: convincing transportation companies to devote some time in October and November to essential changes to their contracts and replace their on-board units. It will primarily depend on the transportation businesses whether they want to see the long queues at the borders and fuel stations again, as we remember them from the beginning of 2007 when the toll system was launched," said Matej Okáli, CzechToll CEO.

CzechToll also introduced their mobile control prototype vehicle in front of the building of the Ministry of Transport today. CzechToll will hand over forty new vehicles for toll collection control as part of its supply of the toll collection system in the last quarter of 2019.

At first glance, these Volkswagen Transporter vehicles will be similar to those used by the Customs administrations when checking the toll collection today. These current vehicles have however reached the end of their service life. The new vehicles will house cutting-edge technologies that will help the state better control whether transportation companies meet their toll obligations.

"Unlike in the prototype, the new vehicles we are going to supply to the Customs administration will be also equipped with a safe and a screen for the second passenger sitting in the front seat and the inner layout will be different as well. At this moment, the testing and fine-tuning of all systems and equipment inside the car, so that they work seamlessly, is the priority for us" Matej Okáli added.
