The construction season on motorways and roads begins. This year, we will open 46.5 kilometres of new motorways, finish the modernisation of D1 and launch construction of 100 kilometres of new motorways.

Workers are back on constructions. This year, they will build 46.5 km of new motorways.
“This year’s budget of the Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) amounts to CZK 61 billion, i.e. by CZK 6 billion more than in the last year. There is no need to worry that we stop investing into road constructions, as it was during the previous crisis,” said minister of transport Karel Havlíček and added, “We are currently in the process of constructing 211.4 km of roads and motorways and we will begin with another 165 kilometres this year.”

D1 motorway

This year’s construction season on D1 motorway will be the last. Only 50 kilometres on five sections remain to be modernised. The workers will finish the modernisation in October this year, so after a long nine years, drivers can use the new motorway between Prague and Brno.

Newly opened motorways

This year, we will also finish 46.5 kilometres of new “green-field” motorways. The longest two sections are on D11. The first one is 15 km long going from Hradec Králové to Smiřice and then follows a 7 km long section from Smiřice to Jaroměř. A 12 km long section from Opatovice to Časy will open this year on D35. Also, the construction of D6 in direction to Karlovy Vary continues; we will open a 5 km long Lubenec bypass. Otrokovice bypass on D55 will open in Moravia.

Launched constructions

ŘSD plans to launch construction of 100 km of new motorways. The construction will begin on new sections of D6 in direction to Karlovy Vary, on D55 between Staré Město and Moravský Písek, on D59 between Hulín and Fryšták or on D3 in direction to Austrian borders on a section Třebonín – Kaplice railways station. A crucial point is the beginning of construction of 32 kilometres on D4 through the first PPP motorway project in the Czech Republic.

1st class roads

We will also continue with constructions on 1st class roads. Currently, 57 kilometres are in progress, out of which 22.9 km will be opened this year. These are for example Chrudim bypass, Krnov bypass, Opava south bypasses or Osová Bítýška bypass in Vysočina. We will also finish reconstruction of a Rádelský Mlýn junction by Jablonec nad Nisou or road I/27 Plzeň, Třemošský rybník – Orlík. This year, we will launch a construction of Jaroměř, Mělník, Nová Paka, Klatovy or Olbramovice bypasses, road I/53 from Znojmo to Lechovice or road I/34 from Stráž nad Nežárkou to Lásenice. In total, we will construct 64.9 kilometres of 1st class roads.

Like every year, this year we will concentrate on road works on motorways and 1st class roads. The most important road works will be done on D2 and D5. We will also continue with the reconstruction of bridges. All investment activities are available on an interactive map of ŘSD
