Two new things in transport: Carriers can get ready for a single ticket and an electronic vignette
12/7/2019Press releases

Today, MPs dealt with two projects aimed at making life easier in the field of transport. They approved the introduction of electronic vignettes since 2021 and discussed the Railways Act, which allows the introduction of the Single Tariff System. In addition, the Ministry of Transport has progressed in the preparation of a single ticket today so that railway carriers have already received the essential technical and contractual documentation for the System and thus have all the documents necessary to modify their check-in systems so that the system can be launched next year.

Two new things in transport: Carriers can get ready for a single ticket and an electronic vignette
Electronic Vignette

The approved video tolling system will be functioning from December 2020 and its implementation is planned for 2021. The user of a toll road with a vehicle up to 3.5 tons will be able to pay the fee not only at physical points of sale, but also through purchases in an e-shop (via PC, telephone, etc.). Therefore, drivers will not need to have any form of paper vignette in the car, everything will be in an electronic form, they will only receive a proof of purchase and they will carry this payment receipt with them.

As well as today, it will be possible to buy 10-day, monthly and annual vignettes.

The goal is to increase the comfort of drivers, electronic vignettes will prevent counterfeit and automated checks will ensure that drivers do not drive on motorways without paying the relevant fee. The money from vignettes goes back into repairs and new road constructions through the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.

Single Tariff System

The full launch of the system and the involvement of all rail carriers is expected in December 2020, which is in line with the text of the draft Law on Railways discussed by the Chamber of Deputies today. However, the Ministry of Transport assumes that if the carriers are ready, pilot operation on selected routes may already start in the first half of 2020.

The single tariff system, using the trade name “OneTicket,” will offer tickets that allow passengers to choose from a number of carriers, easily use connections and travel across the country with a single ticket and under uniform tariff conditions. It will be a system which will allow flexible tickets to be sold between any two points of the Czech railway network, in addition to discount tickets (which will continue to exist).

During the first half of this year, contractual documents were finalized in cooperation with carriers and integrated transport systems, defining the rights and obligations of the entities involved regarding the distribution of tickets, the provision of transport and the settlement of mutual liabilities and receivables. At the same time, after consulting the carriers and their technical operators, the technical conditions for the functioning of the system were set.

The creation of a single ticket system is one of the programme priorities of the current government in the field of transport.
