Drivers can use two new sections of motorway D6 to Karlovy Vary. These concern Nové Strašecí–Řevničov and Řevničov bypass. Extension of D6 motorway will make driving safer and smoother as well as shorten the traveling time between Prague and Karlovy Vary.

Motorway D6 to Karlovy Vary is longer by 10 kilometres. Drivers can use new Řevničov bypass.
“We now open two sections in total length of 10 kilometres; another bypass Lubenec in length of 5 kilometres will be finished next year. However, no one has to worry about it being an end. After years of postponements, the roadworks on D6 will truly begin and we expect finishing it in 2026 thanks to the new liner act”, said minister of transport Karel Havlíček.

New sections of D6 will move the transit transport away from the municipalities’ built areas. The relief concerns especially Řevničov and Krušovice. It will significantly ameliorate living conditions of residents, reduce the risk of accidents of pedestrians and cyclists, decrease the pollutant burden and noise pollution in residential areas and improve the overall accessibility of the region making it more attractive for investors and citizens.

“Due to a continuous increase of transport intensity, the current I/6 road does no longer satisfy the needs in terms of transport safety and smoothness. Therefore, it will be entirely replaced by D6 motorway. An intensive preparation process is under its way on the remaining sections of D6. We have launched a selection procedure on construction of D6 Krupá – relocation, which will begin next year. It will be then followed by roadworks on bypass Hořesedla and Horovičky”, said the director of Road and Motorway Directorate Radek Mátl.

The current road I/6 (or D6 motorway), which is a part of the international E-road network as route E48, connects Prague with an industrial agglomeration in North-West Bohemia and spa resorts of international interest – Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně, Jáchymov and Františkovy Lázně. It runs from the capital city in direction Nové Strašecí – Karlovy Vary – Sokolov – Cheb to borders with Germany.
