Holiday trips entail certain trouble. Unknown routes and destinations, unknown roads that may be full of cars, different traffic regulations, changing mood of travellers, a big risk of traffic jams, the desire to reach the destination as quickly as possible and accumulation of stress and fatigue before the holiday. Tragic traffic accidents caused by fatigue or confusion of the driver are unfortunately typical of the time when most people start heading to the sea for their desired holiday. The overestimation of one's strength and abilities is another frequent cause of accidents. It happens that drivers who always only take their "well-known weekend tours" set on a 1000km non-stop ride believing they will make it. Then they forget regular breaks and want to drive as much possible in on go and at any cost. The consequences may be however very tragic.

To be able to duly plan your trip in advance and safely reach your holiday destination, we have updated our map where you will see the most important road traffic restrictions you may encounter on the way.

"We recommend everybody going on a holiday to plan the route and check where he/she can expect problems and which sections to avoid, so that the driver does not get confused on the spot and does not improvise. Our interactive map on our website shall help you. Going on the holiday is not like racing," said the transport minister Dan Ťok at a press conference.

Very sad statistics

The statistics speak a very sad language. Most people die in July and August on the roads. One fifth of all people are killed or heavily injured during the summer holiday. Even when we could see a falling trend in fatal accidents, this is a very risky period: in 2017 it was 101 people who died on the roads. So who are the most vulnerable groups? It is children, cyclists and motorcyclists.
Lack of attention is among the most frequent causes of accidents

Traffic intensity, traffic restrictions and stress we have carried from our workplace unfortunately negatively affect the road situation. But there are things we can affect ourselves. According to statistics and a sociological research within the "Nepozornostzabiji" campaign ("lack of attention will kill you") of the Czech association of insurance companies, including BESIP and the Czech Police, lack of attention while driving is the one of the most frequent causes of accidents, followed by situations when the driver is handling his/her phone and other communication devices, navigation, etc. The penalty points system shows that holding the phone while driving is the third most frequent traffic offence. Last year there we about 50 000 such offences – and this only includes cases which the police classified as such, just imagine how many more there are ...). "Up to one third of drivers admit they are sending SMS or chatting while driving, which is a true warning," said Tomáš Neřold.

Once the summer holidays are starting, we must mention that fatigue leads to lack of attention and accidents. Fatigue makes up to 6.8% and lack of knowledge of the route about 6% for men.
