Transport Minister Martin Kupka and Director General of ŘSD, the Road and Motorway Infrastructure Manager, Radek Mátl presented the plan for the 2023 construction season on motorways and category I roads. The construction season is already in full swing, so a record 265.2 km of new motorways and category I roads are currently under construction throughout the Czech Republic.

Minister Kupka presented the plan for the construction of motorways and roads in the current season
"A record volume of motorways and roads is under construction in 2023. Work is under way on a total of 265.2 kilometres: 158 kilometres of motorways and 107.2 kilometres of category I roads. In addition to this, another 85.3 km of motorways and category I roads are in the tender phase," says transport minister Martin Kupka.

Thanks to this high construction activity, 133.5 kilometres of new motorways, built on green fields, will open in the next two years. We will also make 82 kilometres of category I roads operational.

For example the D6 near Krupá, the D49 between Hulín and Fryšták, the D3 in the section Úsilné-Kaplice railway station or a part of the D55 from Babice to Bzenec. New sections of the D48 and the D7 motorways will also open to drivers this year. Regarding category I roads, we should mention for example the bypass of Karviná, the section of I/36 Časy-Holice, the bypass of Doudleb nad Orlicí, Mošnov, Bludov or Jaroměř and I/27 in the section Šlovice-Přeštice.

"The pro-investment construction budget for this year is good news, because only ŘSD has CZK 65.5 billion available. This is an important step towards economic recovery and the Czech Republic's competitiveness in Europe," added minister Kupka.

"Construction work has not stopped completely even during the winter and thanks to this we have managed to keep to the construction schedule on all the main construction sites. This year we want to build mainly new sections of the D35 and D55 motorways and the border section of the D11 to Hradec Králové. The construction of important bypasses of towns and municipalities that divert transit from their centres will also continue," said Radek Mátl, Director General of ŘSD.

The biggest construction projects in 2023 include:
  • new sections of D35 (D35 Hořice-Sadová, D35 Vysoké Mýto-Džbánov, D35, Janov-Opatovec and D35 Homole tunnel),
  • the D11 section from Trutnov to the state border with Poland, which should reach the construction phase,
  • construction of the D55 will move further into the area of Olomouc and Kokory.

A complete overview of all upcoming and completed sections can be found in the interactive map on the website www.rsd.cz
