High-speed connection between Prague and Dresden, Czech EU Presidency or clean mobility. These and other topics were discussed between Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka and his German counterpart Volker Wissing. Germany is one of the most important international partners of the Czech Ministry of Transport and the dialogue with it is also important for a number of transportation projects.

"Very good relations with the German Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport have repeatedly paid off both in the bilateral area and at European level. The strategic partnership between the Czech Republic and Germany is also reflected in cross-border transportation projects, among which the high-speed connection between Prague and Dresden plays a major role. The Czech Republic's readiness to communicate intensively with Germany is also important for the upcoming Czech EU Presidency, says Transport Minister Martin Kupka.

The two ministers discussed long-term cross-border transportation projects where railways are traditionally one of the main and crucial ones. The Via Vindobona, which connects Berlin with Prague and Vienna and includes a high-speed link between Prague and Dresden, dominates here. In addition, the two heads of the transport ministry also discussed a rail link between the Czech capital and Munich and Nuremberg.

Road topics were also on the table, namely the route from Prague to Karlovy Vary and Bayreuth in Bavaria and the connection between Prague and Chomutov and Chemnitz.

The priorities of the upcoming Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU were an important part of the meeting, where the two ministers discussed for example the transportation part of the Fit for 55 package or the revision of the TEN-T regulation. The Czech minister invited his German counterpart to an informal meeting of the Council of Ministers responsible for transport in Prague in October.
