The Motorways and Road Administration Organisation ŘSD has a new director: Pavol Kováčik replaced Jan Kroupa. His job is to accelerate the preparation of new motorway projects, set efficient management and control mechanisms, improve cooperation with the police and regions during emergencies and communication towards the public. The transport minister Vladimír Kremlík will be happy if the recent head of ŘSD stays in the sector.

"What I expect from the new general director are new impulses for more efficient work at ŘSD, very good planning of transport projects, correct setting of contracts and consequent supervision of compliance. Plus construction quality also matters a lot. Efficient and effective management and control mechanisms need to be put is place and a general transformation of ŘSD should also be considered," says the transport minister Vladimír Kremlík.

The new head Pavol Kováčik should also focus on emergencies, their handling and communication. "Drivers must have enough information in case of accidents or obstacles, so that they can immediately react to the situation. Faster clearing of accident sites needs to be discussed with the regions and the police as well," Vladimír Kremlík adds.

In his recent job of Pavol Kováčik was the chairman of the board of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure SFDI, at the Ministry of Transport he was member of an expert team for the preparation of the PPP D4 project and in the past he was the head of investments at the National Motorways Company and chairman of the board of Utility Structures in Košice, Slovakia. He graduated from the University of Transport in Žilina, Slovakia, and from the University of Economics and Management Prague.

The transport minister thanked the departing head Jan Kroupa for his long-term work in the organisation. "I would like to thank the existing director for the 254 km of motorways and category I roads that are currently under construction. I appreciate his work and the stability of ŘSD and hope he stays working in our sector," the transport minister Vladimír Kremlík adds.

There are currently 140 km of motorways under construction as green field investments, another 52 km of the D1 motorway are being modernised and 63 km of new category I roads are under construction. While construction of the Budweis bypass and the D35 between Opatovice nad Labem and Časy is under way, works still need to be done on the ring road around Prague and start of the first PPP project on the D4. Preparations of the central-Bohemian part of D3 need to be accelerated as well.
