The Czechs and Germans follow a common objective: the construction of the high-speed rail line from Prague to Dresden. They are starting work on an international presidential agreement on this cross-border railway connection. The Czech minister of transport Dan Ťok had this confirmed from his German counterpart Andreas Scheuer at their meeting in Berlin.

"We are preparing an international agreement on the construction of a new railway connection between Ústí nad Labem and Dresden which will govern the joint cross-border tunnel through the Krušné hory mountains. At the same time, we want to integrate this high-speed rail line into the TEN-T network," says the Czech minister of transport after the meeting.

A Czech-German Expert Group was set up in Berlin in May which negotiated the plan of operating the cross-border tunnel according to German regulations. The RIA cooperates with Deutsche Bahn Netz on the tunnel design. A joint agreement shall be drafted until the end of 2018, governing the next steps in the preparation of the cross-border section and counting the resources needed for preparation in 2019 and 2020.

"The route from Pilsen to Munich via Domažlice and Furth im Wald is another priority railway connection. It is still this year that the tunnels between Pilsen and Rokycany will open," minister Ťok added. The reconstruction of route Pilsen – Domažlice – state border in a length of approx. 70 km shall raise the track speed up to 200 km/h and reduce the travel time from Prague to Munich to less than four hours.

The ministers were discussing other topics as well, such as the need for building the Děčín Navigation Level, allowing navigation on the Labe river, and cross-border cooperation projects in the testing of self-driving vehicles. Minister Ťok also invited the federal minister Scheuer to Prague to an official visit.
