The minister of transport Karel Havlíček opened a new section of motorway D48 between Rybí and Rychaltice in a total length of 11.5 km. Also, a 3 km long section of 1st class road between Skotnice and Příbor connecting motorway D1 with D48 was opened.

“In Moravskoslezský region, the motorway D48 is an important transport artery going from west to east and connecting the southern part of this region with central Moravia on one side and Poland on the other. The new 11.5 km long section will increase traffic safety since many traffic collisions happened on this section”, said minister of transport Karel Havlíček during the opening ceremony.

D48 is a part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) as well as the international road E462 from Brno via Český Těšín to Krakow (PL). The construction of D48 will continue next year with the first phase of interchange Bělotín–Rybí in the length of 13.2 km. This section should be open in 2024. In addition, two sections of Frýdek-Místek bypass should be finished by the end of 2022.

The other opened construction is Skotnice bypass on road I/58. This bypass will lead the transit transport away from the village centre thus reducing noise and emission pollution. A technical curiosity of this construction is a 150 m long cut-and-cover tunnel under Prchalov.

A total of 21 km of new motorways were opened this year, such as the D48 section or two sections on D6 motorway to Karlovy Vary. Also, 24 km of city bypasses and over 21 km of motorway D1 were finished this year. The current state of the construction is visible on an interactive map provided by the Road and Motorway Directorate.
