RIA continues with preparations for the relocation of the Brno Railway Junction
"We are implementing the government decisions from 2002 and 2015 in which it was decided that the Brno railway junction shall be moved. On top of this, the City of Brno and the South Moravian Region have also agreed on this. After about 72 years we have reached an agreement on how to proceed. But the discussion must not stop, we must work hard," said the minister of transport Dan Ťok.

The Central Commission of the Ministry of Transportation chose the so-called River Variant for the Brno Railway Junction on May 30. It made this decision after studying the Feasibility Study and reviewing opinions of experts and railways operators, statements of affected towns and the region, the RIA and the Steering Committee for the Brno Railway Junction.

"As this is a big investment, I will provide further materials and information to the government, showing where exactly the money shall be invested to ensure this investment will be efficient," minister Ťok added. The total investment costs excluding VAT are about CZK 43.1 billion, of which CZK 40.8 billion is the railway part and 2.3 billion is the connecting urban infrastructure.

The government was also notified that the RIA will prepare the Technical and Financial Assessment of the modifications needed for higher capacity and stability of the Traffic Prognosis of freight transport in the selected Variant before they assign the next design level.

When preparing this document, the RIA must take into account, among other things, the merging of passenger and freight trains into a single multi-corridor, collisions in the direction towards the Brno-Maloměřice station and the servicing of the Brno Terminal. The technical solution must also allow the possible construction of the so-called North-South Urban Train in Brno.
