The State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI) along with the Ministry of Transport and state enterprise CENDIS prepared instructions on how to proceed in cases when drivers accidentally purchased an e-vignette for a non-existing number plate. People will have the option to request a refund for such payment.

Payments for e-vignettes assigned to a non-existing number plate will be returned
“The current legislation does not allow the e-vignette system to check whether the filled out number plate exists or not. The Ministry of Transport will help to solve these situations by verifying and providing us with the information”, explained Lucie Bartáková, the director of Financial Funds Management Department in SFDI.

The refund option will apply to the cases, when people filled out a non-existing number plate by mistake or a wrong registration country. If they accidentally filled out a wrong but existing number plate, the refund will not be possible. “We need to secure the system from a potential misuse. It is also impossible to verify that the purchase was done by a mistake and not upon an agreement with the vehicle’s operator”, added Ms Bartáková.

Customers will file a request for refund and attach a copy of the vehicle registration book clearly showing the number plate and a confirmation of payment for a non-existing number plate. After SFDI receives the request, it will ask the Ministry of Transport to verify the existence, or non-existence of the number plate and subsequently refund the payment to the account from which the payment was done.

Refund claim will be possible after all legal materials are prepared, change of terms and conditions is completed and the system adjusted. We presume that people will have the option to file a request in mid-May. They will also be allowed to request the refund retrospectively, i.e. everyone who paid for an e-vignette assigned to a non-existing number plate since the beginning of sales in December.
