To be specific: 96 km of new motorways and 86 km category I roads are now serving drivers. Work on new construction projects is in full swing, with 123 km of new roads being under construction. "Over the recent years, we have been moving ahead with the construction of key motorways and roads, even though we are still obstructed by a very complex permitting system. Blocking a project is, unfortunately, quite easy for opponents, while enforcing public interest is almost impossible in some cases," said the Minister of Transport Dan Ťok.

Despite this, the ministry completed 96 km of motorways over the last four years, of which 33 km are completely new sections and 63 km are modernised section of the D1 motorway, which actually equals the construction of a completely new motorway during operation. On top of this, the department repaired more than 500 km of national roads every year.

A total of 75 km of new motorways and 86 km of category I roads are currently under construction. On Monday, December 11, the Minister of Transport will officially kickstart the construction of the relocation of the I/16 road Slaný - Velvary. The new road will in fact create a bypass of the town of Slaný, take transit traffic out of the town and improve the connection of the D8 motorway with the I/7 road and the connecting D7 motorway.

On Tuesday, 12 December, minister Ťok will start the construction of another extension of the D6 motorway in Karlovy Vary: the Central Bohemian part in sections Nové Strašecí - Řevničov and the actual bypass of Řevnicov.

Preparatory work is also under way on the completion of the D35 in sections Opatovice nad Labem - Časy and Časy - Ostrov. In places with the most sophisticated civil structures, the archaeology has been completed. A legally effective building permit has been issued for the estacade across river Elbe, other bridges and a part of the route. The Selection Committee of the government assesses the bids of contractors in the last round.

"Other motorway construction projects will obtain the license and construction will start in the upcoming building season. Within four years, new motorway sections will be completed and motorists will finally clearly see the expansion of the motorway network after all those years," said Dan Ťok, adding that in order to accelerate the construction of new motorways and high-speed railways, the representatives of all political parties must present concrete proposals for necessary changes to the legislation.
