The transport minister Dan Ťok commenced the building season by tapping the base stone of Lubenec bypass on the D6 motorway. The 5km bypass will be created by rebuilding the existing I/6 road into a motorway. The new section will take transit traffic away from the municipality, reduce noise and smog and hence significantly relieve local residents. Work is already under way on ten kilometers of the continuation of the D6 Karlovy Vary motorway. Work is in progress on more than 140 kilometres of motorways and category I roads.

"The Lubenec bypass is the first construction project of this year's construction season. We will start another construction site already on March 12 – a 5km section of the I/21 road between Trstěnice and Drmoul. We are currently building almost 150 km of motorways and category 1 roads and more than 190 km of other projects are going to be started", says the transport minister Dan Ťok.

The price of the winning bid for the D6 Lubenec bypass totals CZK 1,037,991,691 (excl. VAT). Swieteslky – Strabag is the contractor and the project shall be completed by March 2021.

New D6 sections belong to national priority projects where an exemption could be negotiated with the European Commission, so the entire EIA process did not have to be repeated. Another two sections of the D6 – the construction of the Řevničov bypass, connecting to the Nové Strašecí - Řevnicov section, are under construction. These construction projects were commenced by the end of 2017. They should be opened in the autumn of 2020. The construction of the D6 motorway will make a significant contribution to improving traffic safety and make traffic smoother, shorten transport times towards our western borders and bring a better connection between the Czech Republic and Germany.

Construction in 2018

"Work is currently in progress on more than 140 kilometres of motorways and category I roads. Work will continue on the South-Bohemian D3 motorway where an 8km section between Bošilec and Ševětín and and an almost 11km long section between Ševětín and Borek are under construction. Work will also continue for instance on the semi-completed section D48 Rybí – Rychaltice, on the D7 between Postoloprty and Bitozeves and on town bypasses," says the transport minister Dan Ťok.

Also the modernisation of the D1 motorway will continue this year in line with the schedule. If the weather allows, work will start on five sections in the second half of March: Ostředek (km 34) – Šternov (km 41), Hořice (km 75) – Koberovice (km 81), Jihlava (km 112) – Velký Beranov (km 119), V. Meziříčí východ (km 146) – Lhotka (km 153) and now also on the section between Humpolec (km 90) and Větrný Jeníkov (km 104). The start of modernisation on three more sections: Mirošovice (km 21) – Hvězdonice (km 29), Velký Beranov (km 119) – Měřín (km 134) and Devět křížů (km 168) – Ostrovačice (km 178) has been blocked by Děti Země (Children of the Earth) who appealed against the building permit.

Tapping the foundation stone of the D6 motorway around Lubenec (1 March 2018)

A total of 193 km of motorways and category I roads are ready for construction in 2018. For instance the D11 project in section Hradec Králové – Smiřice and Smiřice Jaroměř, the construction of the D35 Opatovice - Časy and Časy – Ostrov, and the D55 Otrokovice, bypass are ready for construction (You will find the list of construction projects on our website interactive map).

The construction preparation process now takes more then ten years. The amendment on accelerating the construction of transport infrastructure, which minister Ťok submitted for negotiation based on an agreement with all parties and associations, may reduce this time. There has been consensus in the parliamentary group about the instruction of the so-called "preliminary holding" institute. This would mean that construction could start on selected priority projects prior to the expropriation of all land plots along the motorway or railway route. It would also be impossible to appeal against the expropriation.

In the first draft amendment on the acceleration of the construction of transport infrastructure there will for instance be the following: access to the land plots during construction preparation, preliminary holding, increased fees for liens, purchase of "residual plots" (if approved, the state will purchase also the rest of the land that is not used economically, which the state would otherwise have to make accessible anyway, e.g. via a field road). Residual land plots can then be used e.g. during complex land modifications.
