ŘSD, the Czech roads and motorways manager, opened another part of the D35 motorway between Časy and Ostrov. It is the continuation of the section between Opatovice nad Labem and Časy, which was opened last year, and it is therefore another motorway section that will replace the I/35 road with poor capacity and safety. The opening of the section was also attended by prime minister Petr Fiala.

According to prime minister Petr Fiala, the D35 motorway should have been completed before the D1 motorway was modernised. In the government's programme statement the construction of the D35 was therefore identified as one of the government's priorities. "I am very happy that construction is now really under way. Our goal is to gradually start with all the remaining parts of the D35 motorway in the next three years, said prime minister Petr Fiala at the opening of the new section, adding: "We also want to use partnerships with the private sector to accelerate the completion of the D35. In August the government approved the Ministry of Transport's intention to include the last two sections of the D35 motorway in the PPP project."

"The D35 motorway is of major transport importance, because it will change the flow of cars across the Czech Republic. It will connect Prague with central and northern Moravia and once completed, it will, together with the D11 motorway, constitute the northern alternative to the congested D1," said transport minister Martin Kupka. However, he also mentioned that it is not just about relieving the D1. "The absence of the D35 motorway is affecting people in the municipalities located on the current I/35 road and with the gradual completion of other sections of the D35 the attractiveness of this road as a link between Central Bohemia and Moravia has been increasing. That is why it is so important that we have finally stopped neglecting the D35 motorway and are working towards its fast completion."
"Due to high traffic volumes, the current I/35 road no longer meets the requirements for safe and smooth traffic and every new section of the D35 will therefore contribute to improving this situation," added Radek Mátl, Director General of ŘSD, and continued: "The motorway that has been put into operation today represents a high-capacity road with divided directions that will allow for smoother and thus safer driving. It will significantly improve the traffic situation and reduce noise and emissions in the municipalities along the I/35 road, which will no longer be used mainly by heavy goods traffic." He also highlighted the intensive preparation of all remaining sections of the D35: "Two of them are already in the phase of a tender for the contractor," concluded Radek Mátl.

The most challenging civil structure of the whole project was the motorway bridge over the railway station in Uhersko that was built using a completely unique method. Its construction was split in two halves along the busy railway line from Prague to Olomouc. The two halves of the bridge were eventually turned and connected directly over the tracks. The video of the bridge turning is available here.

The project also included rest area Dolní Roveň, also already completed, on both sides of the motorway. On both sides there will be petrol stations, restaurants, playgrounds and rest areas with lawn and planting.

The alignment of the D35 motorway lies on the route Jičín – Hradec Králové – Olomouc – Lipník nad Bečvou and when completed it will be the second longest motorway in the Czech Republic with a total length of 210 kilometres. The D35 is also part of the global TEN-T network of European transport corridors along its entire length.

The construction was co-financed from the Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport.
